About the Artist

Between April 9 and April 11, 2026 (and some post Sale), Alice’s artwork will be sold at an estate sale and through direct purchase with Diamond Estate Services.

Alice Richards has made art a life passion for 40 years, not just as an artist, but one with a very impressive résumé in the Arts.

She was an initiator and collaborator of creating Fine Arts programs and centers in two major California cities, including San Jose, CA in the Silicon Valley/San Francisco Bay Area.

She was appointed as a commissioner for the San Jose Arts Commission in the mid-1960s and remained on the commission for several years. She helped create or was the initiator of such programs as the San Jose Art Museum, San Jose Children’s Theater, the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts (look for her name on the bronze plaque!), the Open Artist Studios in Modesto, CA, and many others. She was also on the Stanislaus County Tourism Roundtable to help find ways to bring more people and events to the local cities.

She has received both congressional and mayoral honors for her endeavors.

On top of her Bachelors of Science from Wayne University in Michigan, Alice began to pursue a second BA in Fine Arts at San Jose State (though had to postpone due to the workload of work, school and raising children), as well as audited nearly all the courses required for a Masters in Fine Arts at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA.

Alice is so passionate about art that she is an avid collector with at least 200 pieces! She also started and ran a women’s group shortly before retiring, to help educate others on art.

About her art

Alice’s paintings have been presented at multiple galleries. She’s also created exquisite jewelry with antique, semi-precious stones.

As she says about her paintings, “I have drawn and painted most of my life. Some series have included seascapes, portraits and clouds.

The series of water-based paintings reflect the use of color I so like, in a variety of color combinations.

I most enjoy painting to music. One of my series is based off Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. I painted his music! This series led me to spontaneous painting after an emotional experience: anger, frustration, sadness, or empathy. The strokes, lines, color, space all reflect my feelings at that moment.

Some of the paintings are also of sounds and instruments in the music.

Rhythms, colors, and expressions of emotions remain in all paintings I explore.”
